The difference with Shropshire Door Canopies begins with the wood we use – in particular our oak.

Every piece of oak that we use for our Oak porches has been barn stored for 12-18 months. This makes our oak more stable. To our knowledge we are the only porch and canopy maker to do this.

Other suppliers often use ‘Green oak’ (fresh sawn), which can warp if the porch or canopy is not erected straight away. With our products, there is no real time limit from ordering to fitting.

Green oak, particularly when placed on a south-facing aspect, will suffer warping, cracking or bending. Proper drying of the timber is the only way to avoid this.

And we’re proud that in five years we have never had an Oak porch returned to us.

Sustainably sourced oak

Our oak comes from a sustainable source in France – in fact all our timber comes from sustainably managed resources and is either FSC or PEFC certified.

Unlike the UK, oak is grown in plantations in France and harvested every 100 years, so the timber is straight and consistently high in quality.

We buy our oak at least a year in advance where it is stored in our purpose-built drying shed near Ellesmere.

This is why our oak porch production is limited to four per week.
